The End of the Open Internet
- Most end-points now use dynamic IPs.
- Most networks use firewall to block specific ports.
- Many places use Network Address Translation (NAT) to
completely hide their machines. This is also due to the lack of
IP numbers.
- Some service providers offer asymmetric bandwidth. My
Roadrunner contract specifies that I cannot use my machine as a
server.
- These restrictions have lead to an abuse of port 80 for
passing data that is not http.
