Abstract: In this chapter I provide an overview of our experience to date with market oriented programming After some further elucidation and motivation of the basic ideas I describe the market oriented programming environment we have been devel oping and using The following sections outline some of the applications we have explored with the market oriented approach This leads up to a discussion of the lessons learned from our experience some guiding principles and observations that were not obvious at the outset of this research at least to us We conclude by considering the relation to other research and some of the promises and pitfalls of market oriented programming
